About me
Helen James MA BPC
I am a Child and Family Psychotherapist with over 15 years’ experience working with children, young people and their families. I have spent much of my career working therapeutically with children with complex needs and at risk of school exclusion. I also have experience working with young people across a diverse range of settings including independent school and asylum-seeking communities. I am committed to working with sensitivity to the unique individual circumstances and experiences of my clients. Following my work in schools, private practice and most recently, with The Bridge Foundation in Bristol, I currently work in private practice in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council and am a member of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists and the Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
I work using psychodynamic and developmental approaches and have training in other modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness. My NHS masters level training qualifies me to work with children and young people from infancy to early adulthood (25 years). I also hold an enhanced DBS certificate, professional indemnity insurance and have current safeguarding training.
